Patient Testimonials
We are truly blessed to have such devoted and wonderful patients spreading the word about our Vision Therapy Program:
Parent with smart daughter not doing well at school:
“My daughter, Abby, was seen at Fort Myers Eye Associates for vision therapy. The hardest part about having a child that is struggling is not having the resources and understanding to help her. Narrowing in on the fact that her learning issues were due to vision problems was an amazing blessing for my daughter. We knew she was smart, but when applying what was taught didn’t transfer into her school work, we were all frustrated. Once she began doing vision therapy her struggles became fewer and fewer. Now she has the ability to reach her full potential and has acquired the confidence necessary to succeed.” ~Theresa P., parent
Daughter with Asperger’s syndrome does well with Vision Therapy
“My daughter Talia underwent Strabismus surgery at three-years-old, and was later also diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. It wasn’t until she was 8 years old that I found out that there was a common denominator in these two things – her vision.
What I didn’t know was that although it is common for Asperger’s affected people to have vision issues such as squinting, poor eye contact, light sensitivity, poor spatial/body awareness, and difficulties with stairs or catching balls – it is also possible for their vision to affect their behavior, and therefore their development and academic performance.
Talia struggled with everything at this age. She was having difficulty staying on task, listening, and with general academics in class. Her behavior also seemed to be getting more erratic, and I was starting to panic about whether or not there was something available to assist me in helping her to turn this around. I knew she was having difficulties with behavior, with academics, with attention, and with eye contact. I also knew that at that time she had 20/20 vision, and therefore I never dreamt that these things were “vision” issues.
My entire flawed perception, as well as my helplessness to improve my daughter’s issues changed when I met Dr. David Dalesio. Meeting with him, and working together with him to solve some of the mysteries of my daughter’s challenges developed into a life-altering event for both my daughter and myself.
It started with the addition of ambient lenses or “prism” glasses for Talia. Even without the therapy, exercises, and interaction which began later, I saw major positive changes and effects on my daughters behaviors. Talia called them her “3-D Glasses” because all of a sudden she was an inhabitant of the world around her. Over time, we saw success through weekly vision therapy sessions, as well as through working with her at home doing interactive vision exercises and computer-based vision exercises.
Her improvement was consistent and rapid, and I was amazed at how much the therapy helped her attention. The execution of the therapy was engaging and even for a young child (and an autistic child at that), the therapeutic routine was entertaining enough to keep her mostly on task until she could be released from a consistent therapy schedule, and left to do exercises at home.
Talia is now 13 years old and is thriving in school. She is a happy, social, and engaged child who is working within her grade level academically. She is still working on her eye-contact, and will probably struggle with this forever, but her vision, and her ability to coordinate her eyes together moving left to right is no longer holding her back. Dr. Dalesio and the work he did with Talia truly changed her life as well as the lives of our entire family. We have been able to see Talia live up to her potential, and excel in areas where we may not have thought possible before.” ~Vickie A., patient and parent
Teacher recommends Vision Therapy:
“As a parent of a child who was treated by Dr. Dalesio and his staff, I was astounded by the effectiveness and rapid results of eye therapy. The treatment made significant improvements in my daughter’s academics, as well as her self-esteem. As a teacher, I’m excited by the prospect of what eye therapy may mean to some of my struggling students and their parents. Dr. Dalesio and his staff were professional, thorough, kind, and accommodating. My daughter looked forward to her visits and I was confident she was in good hands. Thank you Dr Dalesio and staff!” ~Jen M., parent and teacher
